چکیده

Using recent experimental limits on distortions from COBE FIRAS, and the large lever-arm spanning the damping of sub-Jeans scale uctuations to the scale of the COBE DMR uctuations, we set a constraint on the slope of the primordial power spectrum n. It is possible to analytically calculate the contribution over the full range of scales and redshifts, correctly taking into account uctuation growth and damping as well as thermalization processes. We nd that the 95% upper limit is weakly dependent on cosmological parameters, e.g., n < 1:54 (h = 0:5) and n < 1:56 (h = 1:0) for 0 = 1 with marginally weaker constraints for 0 < 1 in a at 0 + = 1 universe.

The CMB spectrum: Perspective of observing spectral distortions

Spectral distortions (deviations from a Planck distribution) of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) are potential sources of information on the thermal history of the Universe. So far however they escaped detection. We suggest a different observational approach useful to discover Bose–Einstein distortions. ! 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved. Gravitational lensing of cosmic microwave background anisotropies and cosmological parameter estimation

Gravitational lensing, caused by matter perturbations along the line-of-sight to the last scattering surface, can modify the shape of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropy power spectrum. We discuss the detectability of lensing distortions to both the temperature and polarisation anisotropy power spectra and we analyse how lensing might affect the estimation of cosmological parameter...

Interpretation of the Extragalactic Radio Background

We use absolutely calibrated data between 3 and 90 GHz from the 2006 balloon flight of the ARCADE 2 instrument, along with previous measurements at other frequencies, to constrain models of extragalactic emission. Such emission is a combination of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) monopole, Galactic foreground emission, the integrated contribution of radio emission from external galaxies, a...

On the effect of cyclotron emission on the spectral distortions of the cosmic microwave background

We have investigated the role of the cyclotron emission associated to cosmic magnetic fields on the evolution of CMB spectral distortions by considering the contributions by spontaneous and stimulated emission and by absorption in the computation of the photon and energy injection rates. These cyclotron emission rates have been numerically compared with those of the relevant radiative processes...

Gravitational interaction of cosmic microwave background (CMB) photons with matter perturbations present along the line-of-sight to the surface of last scattering modifies the shape of the CMB anisotropy power spectrum. Here I focus on (linear) integrated Sachs-Wolfe and (non-linear) gravitational lensing effects and discuss the detectability of the resulting distortions and their possible cons...
